teenagers

Don't let anyone look down on you for being young. Instead, make your speech, behavior, love, faith, and purity an example for other believers. (1 Timothy 4:12)
FISH is our ministry for Junior and Senior High students (grades 7-12). FISH is dedicated to providing opportunties for teens to explore their faith and to put into practice their own gifts for ministry.

Sunday Mornings

Church School classes for grades 7-12 are offered from 9:00-10:00 a.m. each Sunday morning. And since the Men's group meets in the Senior High room early on Sunday mornings, there is usually a good supply of donuts on hand for class! Come join us for morning music to wake you up and conversation that can make a difference in your life.

Midweek Activities

FISH (our youth group name) also meets each Wednesday evening, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for Junior High, and Wednesday from 5:30 - 7:45 p.m. for Senior High. A typical evening will consist of Bible study, singing, recreation, and a shared meal. As we create an atmosphere of openness and trust, our prayer is that God's Spirit will nurture faith, answer doubts, and guide young people to find God's purposes for their lives.

Other Programs

Teens are a valuable and important part of the ministry of the church body. One of our main ministries is helping put on the Vacation Bible School in the summer. We also work together on a Summer Mission Trip where we can use our skills, talents, attitudes, and abilities to share Christ's love with a hurting world.
Summer Camps are available through the ministry of Tall Timber Camp.

Children

Train children in the right way, and when they are old, they will not stray. (Proverbs 22:6)
Through our varied ministries we seek to provide experiences where each child comes to know the love of God through Jesus Christ, learns the stories of God's graciousness care and discovers her or his place in the family of faith.

Music

Music plays an important role in our worship as we express our love, joy, commitment, adoration, repentance and praise to our Creator. The music ministry at First Presbyterian Church is committed to facilitating worship through vocal and instrumental ensembles and solos.

The Logos Choir is part of an on-going youth program and sings regularly in our worship services. Their meeting time is Wednesday evening.

The Chancel Choir membership is open to all who love to sing and are able to commit to rehearsals.

Phyllis Mentzos, our minister of music, directs the choir, rehearsing every Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Special Music: The First Presbyterian Church provides many opportunities for talent to be showcased.

Mission

Through the grace of God, we are a community of Christian disciples who are called by the Holy Spirit to experience and share the new life of the Kingdom that has come in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Joyful in worship-, disciplined in nurture, inclusive in fellowship, eager in service, enthusiastic in mission, faithful in stewardship, we gratefully respond to Gods love expressed in Christ Jesus so that others around us may also know God, whom to know is life eternal.

The Church is the family of God. Grounded in our common worship, our life becomes increasingly connected and committed to Gods purposes for us. As we seek a ministry for every believer, the leadership of the church is commissioned to inspire the people to discover, develop and deploy their many gifts to the glory of our God.

Staff

First Presbyterian is blessed to have a wonderful staff who are committed to seeing God's work done through God's people.

Co-PastorsPastors Ann and Charlie LewisAnn and Charlie Lewis

Ann considers her leadership style to be collaborative. She seeks to facilitate, enable and equip others. Her compassion, creativity, and strengths in preaching, Christian education, visitations and general pastoral care are evident to those who know her. She has given continuing education emphasis in young children in worship, pre-marital and marital counseling, working with church volunteers, and preaching.

Charlie would say his leadership style is as a servant, and he seeks to follow Christ faithfully. His teamwork and his ability to affirm those he works with come across to those with whom he ministers. Charlie and Ann's efforts have fostered hospitality, generosity and a "family-friendly" atmosphere at First Prebyterian where they have served for over seven years. The attention Charlie and Ann give to parish care ministries is strong. He has given continuing education emphasis to youth ministries, preaching, evangelism, equipping God's people for ministry, and spirituality.

Charlie and Ann find joy in sharing equally in ministry and parenting. Both appreciate the Northwest benefits of lifestyle, environment, and culture - as well as being close to Charlie's family in Yakima. Ann's parents have moved to Phoenix from Ohio, where Ann grew up in a United Methodist parsonage. During the rainy season in Seattle, the Lewis family appreciates the opportunity to visit Ann's parents in sunny Arizona. The Lewis family also enjoys skiing, biking, hiking, and family outings to Seattle.

I have been working with the wonderful people in this congregation for a while... and I've discovered a real family atmosphere. This church doesn't just SAY they're friendly... they actually take you in as a part of their family. (Wait until you experience the "Passing of the Peace" on a Sunday morning... you'll find out what I mean!)

Do you realize how RARE that is? Often, people who profess to be "christians" focus on their own comforts and desires--

--but the longer I work with this family of faith, I discover that their heart is NOT just for a country club atmosphere, but to truly serve others with the heart of Jesus.

And isn't it about time that a church did that?  As we learn to serve others with the love of Jesus, we become more like  Him. That's what church is SUPPOSED to be like - a place where you get spiritually fed by the Word of God, and learn to serve others with the Power of God.

That's what we're trying to accomplish with the Youth and Children in this church family -- to help them discover their gifts... their talents... their ministries.

Rev. Ken Robinson is our Parish associate. An retired Presbyterian minister, Pastor Ken works with the Adult Education and also helps other churches as they have need.

Our Parish Nurse is Merridee Vuori. She combines meeting the needs of the physical body with ministering to the needs of the soul for our congregation.

Our church secretary is Liz Hanlon. An experienced church secretary, we are blessed to have such a talented and capable manager of things administrative and office-ial.
